Why are Super Bowl commercials important and popular in American culture? The Super Bowl is historically known for having large numbers of viewers. On average, 112.2 million viewers watch the match (Marketing Charts). Americans are eager to watch this televised match as many top companies are releasing their new commercials and upcoming products. Most of these advertisers present their products as a luxury or as a necessity of daily life. Advertising agencies influence buyers' choices by presenting their luxury products as a necessity. It is obvious and clear that consumers acquire products that enhance their image and prestige. In other words, “products were designed to appear not only desirable, but absolutely necessary” (Maasik and Solomon 177). Audi, for example, is known as a German brand associated with wealth and prestige. This is why Audi manages to convince consumers to associate the purchase of their exclusive and classic vehicles with the acquisition of a high status symbol. Audi's advertisements use real-life examples in order to connect with their audience. As Salomon mentioned: “If the American dream encourages the desire to “arrive,” to break out into the crowd, it also fuels the desire to be popular, to “belong” (545). » According to Salomon, many populist advertisements transform products into signs of belonging and generally appeal to working-class values (Solomon 545). Audi focuses on producing ads with storylines because they want their audience to specifically imagine themselves driving the vehicle at the time they watch the ad. For example, the television commercial shown during the Super Bowl (2013) by Audi, "Prom", suggests the importance of getting a product that is middle of paper ......, Joseph). Society needs to step back and understand that male power can become a bad thing and lead to violence against women. Women should be able to make their voices heard and their ideas heard (Fredrickson, Barbara). The idea that women are perfect compared to men who get ideas from social media every day needs to be changed. This idea destroys women, causing eating disorders to the point of depression. Women should be able to have confidence in themselves as a person, instead of having low self-esteem due to the objectification men have towards women. Alongside objectification is patriarchy: in certain areas, men push power too far, thus provoking violence. Our society needs to stop and think about what our ads are showing our society, we need to show that women can be strong and have power. We don't always need to have the same idea that men are at the top, but to show what women can do..
