    Every parent gets nervous when it comes time to have a “talk” with their child. Some parents choose to be frank with their child, and others choose not to say anything at all, but sex education is a very important thing. Everyone should educate their children and not rely on others to do the work, regardless of the situation. Each school system usually has sex education programs or speakers who will come and educate students, but during these programs they usually encourage abstinence. Statistics indicate that “Since 1997, the federal government has invested more than $1.5 billion in abstinence-only programs – proven ineffective programs that censor or exclude important information that could help young people to protect their health. » Most young people will not choose abstinence simply because they are asked to; they are adventurous and need to know all the real details of what awaits them, no matter how uncomfortable it may be. If someone is hired to teach students about sex education, they should include full details of what might happen to them. Informants may feel that they are looking out for the best interests of the child by withholding certain information about gender, but this is not at all the case: the more information provided, the more useful it will be. Students need to be educated on more than just "don't have sex" because it will happen eventually and they need to be educated on the right way to handle situations.
