  • Essay / Hockey is not only a sport, but also a lifestyle - 1340

The sport of hockey has been around for over 200 years. Hockey is unlike any other sport because the regulated rules allow for much more physicality and contact. Many people would say that hockey is too physical and it's only a matter of time before it becomes fatal. When hockey players begin playing the sport, their parents push them to achieve greatness. I believe hockey is one of the best sports in the world and being physical is part of the sport. I also believe that hockey parents take the sport a little too far and get out of control when they force their children to get better at the sport. Although most forms of fighting are objectionable, when they take place on the ice and in a controlled environment, they are necessary for the development of the sport. Off-Ice Transition I believe the hockey lifestyle can be taken to the extreme. There are many rules surrounding the sport of hockey. Many rules are intended to ensure the safety of all players when participating in the sport. Although designed to protect players, many rules are controversial; Most rules are established to protect players from concussions and many people argue that fighting should not be allowed because it can also cause a concussion as well as any other hit on the ice. People say that if fighting never happened in the NHL, the rate of head injuries would drop. People who support this usually have never played the sport or haven't been fans of it for a long time. If they had already experienced this sport, they would realize that fighting is the key to this sport and it is very entertaining for the fans. If fighting were banned in sports, I believe many hardcore... middle of paper ... make their players better, then in my opinion parents need to be a more positive influence on their children. (Parent Fight) Hockey is one of the most physical sports in America, but I strongly believe that fighting should be regulated for the safety and well-being of the player, but not eliminated completely; I also believe that fighting should be allowed at an adult level in a sport like college hockey. Players must learn from a young age that violence must stay on the ice. Off-ice transition I believe parents need to be more mature and set a good example for their children. otherwise, it could lead to violent outbursts from their child on and off the ice. Although hockey is not a perfect sport, I believe that with a little improvement from players and fans, it could become much more popular and also watched on a larger scale..
