    It was at the beginning of April that the Rwanda disaster occurred. When the President of Rwanda, Juvénal Habyarimana, was assassinated. After the president was assassinated, that's when the fighting and killing started. A guy who won the Pulitzer Prize twice said the most striking thing about his mission was hearing all the screams. The Hutu militia killed everyone and everything that crossed their path. The stench of dead bodies was everywhere and filled the air wherever you went and because of the smell, everyone was getting sick and vomiting everywhere. People would build crosses out of twigs and set them on fire because it was cold and they needed a way to warm up. They had estimated that around 500,000 people were killed that day in April. The country's population and industrial infrastructure were displaced and destroyed. Gross domestic product has been reduced. Humanitarian organizations working in the region say Rwanda's children are the most vulnerable to the poverty that has subsequently followed the ethnic group.
