When Yellen was just eleven years old, he was apprenticed to an iron master, which he completed in five short years. Samuel Yellen, nicknamed the “Devil,” had excellent work habits and a great sense of humor. He leaves Poland and decides to travel across Europe. While in England, he left for the Americas in 1906. A year later, he was enrolled at the Philadelphia Museum School of Industrial Art. He began taking classes and that same year he became a professor and remained there until 1919. Between his arrival in the United States and the time he became a professor, he managed to open his own shop in 1909. Yellen used to design and create commissions for the firm of Mellor, Meigs and Howe. Well, six years after opening his store, they decided to design him a new studio at 5520 Arch Street in Philadelphia where he remained until his death in 1940. ...
