Have you ever started a book only to find that after a few chapters, a more important task arises that needs attention and you don't haven't been coming back to the book for a while. The problem that followed has been fixed and now it's time to finish this novel whose idea was so brilliant that you just couldn't put it down, but where exactly did you stop and which character is doing what now? It's often necessary to skim through a few previous chapters to get a feel for what's going on and fully focus on the new events taking place. As summer ends, the leaves begin to change and our schoolchildren return to class to begin this very similar task. Can schools with year-round attendance with shorter break periods benefit student learners? Better material retention, higher degrees with increased college enrollment, and safer downtime alternatives are some of the reasons why the traditional educational plan should be done away with. Attending school year-round will help students retain the information they are taught more easily due to the short breaks between the times they attend school. A fourth-grade school teacher in Indianapolis says, “In this schedule, my God, (it takes) two weeks at the most. ”, referring to the six weeks it normally takes to review the previous year's lesson to bring students up to speed for summer vacation (Johnson). If you have to add twenty days in the middle of paper......about what they learned from attending more days of school without burning out on a traditional nine month school schedule. A few short breaks allow the mind to rest but not forget everything they have worked hard on to achieve educational greatness. American society will achieve great things if the education system takes a step forward in all schools operating on a year-round calendar. Works CitedBarber, R.
