Allison McMahonFebruary 10, 2013Mrs. BuckleyWriting/HistoryAfter the Dark Ages came a bright period called the Renaissance where learning, art, and language were recognized. The Renaissance extends from the 14th to the 17th century. The location was mainly located in Italy. At the beginning of the Renaissance, houses were quite simple. Most people had no household items and only had what was supposed to last. Some people, if they could afford it, built their houses of brick and stone. The houses were dark because there were small windows for protection. Cooking and other odors made the house smell foul. There was no running water, so there was a public water service where most of the time women had to fetch water. There were no toilets; therefore, if they were to go, a private place would have to be found. Rich people's clothes were shiny and not meant to last despite hard work. New dyes and techniques were created to allow people to dress in more fashionable ways. The embroidery was always done in gold or silver. The men wore velvet capes and other luxurious clothing. The poor dressed simply. Their fabrics, made of wool and linen, were cheaper and more available. They had very few clothes and wore them for a long time. They did not dress for appearance but to keep warm. The school was accessible to any free man and they could come and go whenever they wanted. The Renaissance school brought back forgotten subjects and helped teach people Latin. Private tutors taught wealthy children and sometimes lived with them. Some teachers have opened a school in their home. School was different for every student. Some went to college to learn Latin, but most students simply went... middle of paper ... translated it into many languages and performed around the world. Shakespeare produced most of his known work between 1589 and 1613. His early plays were mainly comedies and histories, genres which he brought to the height of the art in the late 16th century. Then he wrote about tragedies until around 1608; Hamlet, King Lear, Othello and Macbeth. In his later phase, he wrote tragicomedies, also known as novels, and collaborated with other playwrights. The Renaissance was an educational period of learning about literature and architecture and a period of light after the Dark Ages. Many people were able to make a difference and change history. The Renaissance helped our daily lives and even helped what we already knew by bringing back topics forgotten in the Middle Ages. The Renaissance changed the way we live.
