Visit Bora Bora and discover the magnificent landscapes of this island. Background: Bora Bora is a volcanic island located in the Leeward Islands group of the Society Islands of French Polynesia. The Leeward Islands group includes 9 islands, including Bora Bora itself. Its original name was Vavau which means "firstborn" and later evolved into Pora Pora and then Bora Bora. This breathtaking island was first seen in 1722 by Jakob Roggeveen and is said to have been sighted by many other explorers. The first person to visit the island was James Cook who discovered it in 1769 and landed there in 1777.
