  • Essay / An American in Paris - 1072

An American in ParisOnce upon a time, there was an American named Jerry Mulligan who lived in Paris. When he was demobilized, he decided to become a painter and continue living in Paris so he could simply paint and study art. Paris is a place that inspires a painter or an artist. That's why Jerry loves him so much. Jerry lives 2 floors above a café in a somewhat cramped apartment. But he doesn't complain, he's light and fun. Jerry is popular with the neighborhood kids because he gives them American Bubble Gum. Adam Cook is one of Jerry's very good friends in Paris. He is currently unemployed and continues to earn scholarships to stay abroad. However, he doesn't do much with any of them. Adam works at a bistro around the corner and plays piano for Henri. Henri shows Jerry a photo of his young girlfriend. As he describes his girlfriend, Jerry imagines five different personalities of young Lise. Jerry works in Montmartre and sells his paintings in the street. However, he has difficulty accepting criticism. One of her first clients told us to "move on" because she was critical of his work. Jerry is lucky that Milo has his way. A rich American woman takes a liking to Jerry and offers to buy two of her pieces. He accompanies her in a chauffeur-driven car to her hotel so she can get paid. Her parents are founders of sunscreen oils and she is the heir to their fortune. She immediately takes a liking to Jerry and invites him again to a small party later that evening. She tells him that his driver is taking him home. Later, when Jerry arrives at the "party", he admires Milo's dress and wonders about the other partygoers because so far it's only for two of them. Milo said they were celebrating. Jerry is not the type of guy who wants to be someone's escort. He offers to return the money and suggests that she find another man to do it for her. She tells him that she is more interested in his work than him. She wants to help him succeed and introduce him to important art dealers, etc. While at a club, he accidentally meets the infamous Lise..
