    In Things Fall Apart by Chinua Achebe, 1959, he shows what the dangers of not taking responsibility for children could be. Parents have an incredible impact on their children, whether for better or for worse. Unoka made several mistakes while raising Okonkwo, and throughout this novel he shows how this affects Okonkwo and makes him who he is. This shows his constant worry, his bad temper and his way of sticking to tradition. A major theme presented in this novel is the father-son relationship and orientation. Okonkwo was so concerned that he was nothing like his father. Even as a young boy, Okonkwo was embarrassed by his father and wanted nothing to do with him. He was always afraid of becoming him. “It was fear of himself, lest he be like his father” (Achebe 13). His father's failure at direction made him constantly worry that he was nothing like him, which created even more stress. If a parent does not set good examples of how to live their life, they will not teach the child anything. Unoka wasn't a good influence, he didn't try hard in life and he wasn't known for anything, no one knows that...
