A Link Boy was usually a young boy who guided people home at night with a torch. They did this before there was street lighting, because at night the streets can become a dangerous place. They didn't earn much and often had to beg just to get a penny. They had to purchase their own torches which were usually made from the dried pith of a rush plant dipped in fat or sometimes grease. People believed that the Link Boys would try to lure the people they were leading into dark corners where they would be attacked by thieves, which would usually have disastrous consequences. In 1840, a journalist called them “useful nuisances in dark nights, once indispensable appendages of the aristocracy.” I chose this job because I would rather do this than any other job on the list! It seems to be the simplest, yes, but it also had its drawbacks. As Link Boy, you had the dangerous task of getting people home in the dark. Anyone could have hidden in the shadows of a building and tried to kidnap one of the little boys. They were generally poor, so if one of them went missing, none of them really missed it. To the people they brought home, the boys were just another poor person trying to earn a few pennies to live. They could have easily been killed or kidnapped and used for illegal purposes and no one would care. These young men couldn't defend themselves against anything in the dark. They were poor, so they were probably skinny, small, and had nothing to defend themselves with. There were pros and cons to having to do this work or even if someone chose to do this work. Whatever happened out there in the dark, there was nothing we could do about it once it had already happened. They were open to any treatment... middle of paper ...and you talk to them when you get home. This work is also carried out at night. This job is quite easy for me. Fire doesn't cost much to keep burning. All that's needed are basically legs and eyes. You also need to make sure you're smart about the nighttime chaos. I think this would be an easy way to make money at the moment. If link boys are common in your specific region, however, it will be more difficult to make money. A person can choose their favorite link. I hope they will always ask and meet this one because they trust them. It’s good for both the money and the connection. This is useful because the Link Boy is guaranteed to win money every night. And the citizen is guaranteed to return home. They will also most likely become friends. Money will remain stable for the boy. The Link Boys are always all over the street looking for a good paying customer..
