Thesis: The participation of women and minorities in the Olympic Games over the last hundred years has changed throughout history by minorities taking in charge of the moves, breaking the rules and slowly making his way into the Olympic arena.Paragraph 1: The Ancient Olympic Games were the beginning of the Olympic Games that people know and love today.A . Nowadays we have many different types of games that people can participate in, but back then there were three main games that we participated in to honor the gods. Old games had very little rules and organization, yet the games worked well. Some very strange rules at that time really shaped the games. One was wrestling, men were allowed to goug out eyes and bite people, but they were not allowed to intentionally hit or kick anyone; if they broke any of the rules, they would be whipped on the spot. Additionally, all other holds intended to persuade the opponent to admit defeat through pain or fear are permitted and are an integral part of combat. Another rule widely known to be very original is that only Greek-speaking free men are allowed to compete; that means no poor women or men. In the running event, competitors were allowed to push and shove during this event. Killing an opponent during matches was not a good thing, as the dead boxer was automatically declared the winner.b. The lack of rules and the strangeness of the rules tended to cause disagreements between the losers and the officials. If the loser of the event thought the way the winner won, whether it was shoving, biting, or just being completely unfair, they say what they think. Some arguments and quarrels were the result of “unfair” calls. However, most losers kept it to themselves, as they did not want to cause a scene or dwell on the fact that they had lost.ii. The games over time have changed significantly and many have been added so that the games have a greater reach to viewers and a greater number of competitors. Back then, games were all about showing strength and body. Some examples are boxing, wrestling, diaulos, dolichos, hoplitodromos and pankration. The Diaulos and the Dolichos were different races of speed and agility. Hoplitodromos was “the race of soldiers” or an ancient foot race.
