    In Amy Tan's article “Mother Tongue”, Amy Tan talked about her love and fascination with language in everyday life. Amy Tan explores the different forms of English that people around the world use when they immigrate to the United States and how they are classified based on the way they speak. Her mother plays an important role in recounting how her view of language changed. The author analyzes the purpose and evaluates the effectiveness of his writing in using persuasive means to influence his audience. Throughout the article, Amy uses different rhetorical strategies such as pathos and logos. Amy was raised by her Asian mother to not speak "broken English" properly. The strategies Amy Tan used in the story made her aware of the different Englishes she uses in her life. She gave many speeches in front of many people, and as she gave speeches, she realized the different English that she never uses with her mother, when she was talking about her book The Joy Luck Club. She noticed his different English when she was walking with her mother and husband; she said "don't waste money this way", her mother or her husband didn't realize her different english. Amy Tan's story focused on her mother and how she looked down on her due to her limited English language and how people disrespected or ignored her mother. Indeed, people in department stores, banks and restaurants did not take her mother seriously, did not provide her with good service and pretended not to understand her, or even acted as if they did not hear her. . She uses Logos, Pathos and Ethos, she does it well by giving examples, having emotional appeal and making herself relevant.
