    It takes a lot to be called a hero. Robert F. Kennedy once said, “Whenever a man stands for one ideal, or many others. Or if it addresses injustice, it sends a small wave of hope. A hero is someone who will always be remembered for something good they did. There are many reasons why Harry Truman can be said to be a hero. His commitment and strength began earlier in his life when he decided to serve his country by joining the army during the World War (Miller 132). Harry Truman rose through the ranks starting as a young soldier during the war and eventually becoming commander of a field artillery unit in France (Jenkins 65). After the war ended, Harry opened a men's furniture store with one of his army friends. The store did not work out and after a few years Truman was asked to run for town judge in Jackson Co., Missouri. This is how his political career began. In 1934, Truman was elected to the United States Senate. Over time, Truman became a well-respected politician, and Roosevelt chose him to run alongside him in the 1944 presidential election. They won the election by an overwhelming majority. Truman ended up being vice president for only 82 days due to the death of FDR, and then Truman became the 33rd President of the United States (http://millercenter.org/). Truman became president of the United States at a difficult time and the decision filled the time. World War II was coming to an end. Just two weeks into Truman's presidency, Adolf Hitler committed suicide and the Allies declared victory. Although the war ended in Europe, the war in the Pacific was far from over. During the war, the British and the United States were in the process of manufacturing the most powerful weapon the world had ever known, the atomic weapon... middle of paper ... many political, economic and economic concerns social, and each decision of the time had a profound impact on the future of the United States as well as its allies. His achievements in foreign and domestic affairs, where he faced arguably some of the toughest challenges any American president has faced, are admirable. As leader of the free world, he had to weigh all the elements and make decisions that may not have been popular at the time, but with the intention of preserving the ideals of the nation's ancestors. Since his early childhood, he helped his family by finding odd jobs to help pay the bills, he served his country in the military, and finally he led the country through some of its most difficult times. Truman helped our country in many ways and got us through some of the most difficult times. This is why we must always remember Harry Truman.
